Membership applications open during designated enrollment periods. When enrollment is open, you can apply through the Join Our Community page. Applications are typically reviewed within 2–5 business days, and you will be contacted after your application has been reviewed. If you’re expecting an email from Her Book Society and don’t see it in your inbox, please check your spam or junk folder.
Are book club meetings virtual?
Yes. Our core book club gatherings are virtual, making it easier for members to participate from wherever they are.
Does Her Book Society host in-person events?
From time to time, Her Book Society may host optional in-person experiences in the Chicago area, such as brunches, winery visits, literary outings, and other community experiences. Participation is always optional.
Do I have to read a physical copy of the book?
No. Members are welcome to read a physical book, read digitally, or listen to the audiobook.
What kinds of books does Her Book Society read?
Our selections primarily feature Black authors and Black characters and may include romance, contemporary fiction, drama, romantic suspense, personal growth and healing, fantasy romance, and other stories that create meaningful conversation.
Can authors have their books considered by Her Book Society?
Yes. We love discovering and celebrating books by Black authors. If you believe your book would be a good fit for our community, you are welcome to get in touch. Visit the author section on Our Books for details.
